Karnataka is situated on the western edge of the Deccan plateau with a 287 km coastline opening out on the Arabian sea. This state, whose history goes back to the days of the European Askhoka, once nurtured great dynasties-the Kadambas, the Chalukyas and the Vijayanagar empire. All have left their imprint in the magnificent stonework and the ruins of great cities founded on this plateau of lush tropical jungle, beautiful garden cities and omate buildings. It’s attractions are varied and diverting. The state is perdominantly rural and agrarian. But it is also the most industrians states in India.
