The Jharkhand state comprises the Southern 18 districts of the formar state of Bihar. The state came into being on the 15th November, 2000. It is bounded on the North by Bihar, on the East by West Bengal, on West by Chhattisgarh, on North-West by Uttar Pradesh an on South by Orissa. The state has a number of rivers-Ganga, Son, Damamodar, Swarnarekha, Baraker, Keol and Sankh.

 The region consists mainly of tribal population. The main tribes are the Santhals, Hos Mundas and Oraons. The region is a vast reserve of important minerals yet of be tapped fully. Another important asset of the region is its vast forest cover with a rich flora and fauna. The state has a great potential for an arround growth.
