The fifth largest and most Poplated state of Uttar pradesh can
be divided into two district regions – The Soithern hills and
plateau with an attitude not exceeding 300 meters and the vast
Ganga plain, one of the largest alluvial plain in the world.
Uttar prdesh has a very ancient and colourful history. The
region finds mention in the great epic, the Ramayana and the
Mahabharat. In the 6th century B.C. the state was
associated with two new religions, Jainism and Buddhism. Lord
Mahavira breathed his first sermon. It is the land of great
Sages like Bhardwaja, Vajinavalkya, Vasishta, Vishwamitra and
Valmki and the land of great Scholars like Sri Sankaracharya.
It is the land of cultural and architectural wonders. No part
of the country has more to offer the visitor, be he intersted
in relaxation, culture or the awesme beauty of the Taj Mahal.
The medieval past gave us many intectuals like Tulsidasa,
Birbal Ramchandra and his disciple kabir. It was the period of
a new synthesis of Hindu and Islamic cultures which is still
to be seen in this state of secular character among diverse
culture.
